This presentation will provide attorneys with a look at the recent decision inMcGirt v. Oklahoma, a U.S. Supreme Court case decided in 2020. This session will cover the history of the jurisdictional issues at the center of the case, the arguments made in litigation, and the ramifications of the decision.

is the Lead In-House General Legal Counsel for the Oglala Sioux Tribe. Prior to
serving as Lead In-House Counsel for the Tribal Council, Jennifer served as
in-house Counsel in the Oglala Sioux Tribe Executive Director's Office. Before
working for the Oglala Sioux Tribe, she worked at a national leading Indian Law
firm working on Tribal government and economic development issues for Indian
tribes across the country. Jennifer serves on the Dean's Advisory Board for the
University of Nebraska College of Law. Jennifer is the co-founder and inaugural
Chair of the Indian Law Section of the Nebraska State Bar Association. Jennifer is an enrolled member of the Oglala
Sioux Tribe and lives in Chadron, Nebraska with her husband, son, and three
pets.

Calandra
McCool is an associate at Big Fire Law and Policy Group, a Native
American-owned law firm that specializes in tribal law and federal Indian law.
She focuses her practice on litigation in tribal and federal court. She
graduated summa cum laude from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma
with a Bachelor of Arts in History. She also has a Master of Arts in the
History of Science, Technology, and Medicine from the University of Oklahoma.
She graduated with distinction from the University of Oklahoma College of Law
in 2019. Calandra is the Acting President of the Nebraska State Bar
Association’s Indian Law Section. She is an enrolled member of the Citizen
Potawatomi Nation.

Patrick
is the Chief Judge for the Winnebago Tribal Court and the Ponca Tribal Court.
In addition, Patrick owns and operates Runge Law Office LLC, a private law
practice based in Omaha and focusing on juvenile court representation (parents,
children, and as guardian ad litem), family law, criminal defense, and estate
planning. Patrick is an active participant in the Nebraska Supreme Court
Commission on Children in the Courts, and co-chairs the Tribal/State/Federal
Consortium, working to improve the coordination between the different sovereign
court systems within the state of Nebraska. Patrick is an adjunct professor of
Native American Law at Creighton University School of Law. Patrick is a regular
presenter and teacher of ICWA and other related areas of law to all levels of
the judicial system.
